Birds of Pakistan

Laridae is a family of medium to large seabirds, the gulls, terns, and skimmers. Gulls are typically grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They have stout, longish bills and webbed feet. Terns are a group of generally medium to large seabirds typically with grey or white plumage, often with black markings on the head. Most terns hunt fish by diving but some pick insects off the surface of fresh water. Terns are generally long-lived birds, with several species known to live in excess of 30 years. Skimmers are a small family of tropical tern-like birds. They have an elongated lower mandible which they use to feed by flying low over the water surface and skimming the water for small fish. After short stay at Namal Lake we started our journey towards D.I.Khan. On my way towards D.I.Khan we crossed chashma barrage and I was very eager to do birding there but they did not allow us to do Photography, But at chashma  barrage I was very happy to see a large number of migratory birds and hoped to find some new birds at my destination. Kafir Kot consists of the ruins of 5 temples, and the ruins of a large fort protecting the site. According to the district Gazetteer of Mianwali of 1915 the remains of Kafirkot (and the nearby ruin of Mari) "are indication of the existence of a Hindu civilization of considerable importance and antiquity". As I observed in my last birding in Margalla Hills that maigratiory birds are still to come so I decided to explore some other areas. I heard that some of my friends hunt in Indus River in D.I.Khan. So I decided to visit that area to see some new flora and fauna. It was a long journy 5 to 6 Hour drive from Islamabad to Dera Ismail Khan. At 12 noon we started our journey and on our way we stayed for a while at Namal Lake. Namal University, Mianwali I stopped there for a short time to see the place and to discover some new birds. Migratory birds are not coming but still some birds were there. More likely resident birds but in future its a good place for migratory birds and hope to see a lot on my next trip to Namal Lake.
